worth it

worth it

“Never swerve from the path of the righteous; however trying and dark your present experience may be, it leads to a harvest-home of joy beyond the years. Sowing is sad work. It is the casting away of precious seed; the flinging far and wide of the treasured stores of the barn, an expenditure of the present for the future...

You do not realize it, but you are sowing light. Each act of self-denial, in which you cast yourself into the ground to die, is a seed-germ of the harvest of gladness.” - F. B. Meyer

GOD is worth it. Worth what? Worth our sacrifices, time, money, efforts, our heartfelt prayers, our complete trust…everything we got. Walking in a relationship with Jesus is worth it.

When interviewing and training young salesmen, we would always talk about the price they would pay to get what they wanted. They saw the guys ahead of them in our business, and wanted what we had. They didn’t see endless hours with customers, or late nights on a computer working out every detail of a proposal, after everyone had gone home. They didn’t see us sitting alone at dinner, in a strange town, after meeting with a customer all day long or stuck in an airport dealing with flight delays. They saw nice company cars. They saw us taking customers to nice meals and going on great reward trips with our wives. I’d tell them none of the good stuff came without the hard stuff, but the good stuff was worth it.

So it goes in our pursuit of GOD. Jesus told us we would be in the world, not of it. He told us to set aside our selfish ambitions, to pick up our cross and follow Him. He is worth every trial, struggle and hard decision. Following Jesus is worth our efforts to seek and follow after Him. We’ve spent the month of April talking about our GOD, who is worth it. I’ve realized the more I know of Him, the more compelling He is to me.

“Afterward Jesus went up on a mountain and called out the ones He wanted to go with Him. And they came to Him.” Mark 3:13 NLT

He summons us to come with Him. Going up a hill is a great picture; to walk up, into closer fellowship, away from the world and all it offers. Jesus calls us to go up the hill with Him.

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you.” John 15:4 NLT

We remain, by obeying Him. We obey, by loving others, and loving Him. And when we do, He remains in us. The love Jesus shares with His Father becomes ours; we’re invited in, loved, granted The King and His Kingdom.

"The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.” Matthew 13:44 NLT

Jesus believes The Kingdom is worth selling everything we have to buy a field where the treasure is located. The treasure is worth all we have.

Lives with Christ aren’t without trial, but He walks through every bit of it with us. The Kingdom begins when we experience the Presence of the King. We get to walk with Him now. When troubles come, we can turn to Him.

“The LORD says, I will rescue those who love me.

I will protect those who trust in my name.

When they call on me, I will answer.

I will be with them in trouble.” Psalm 91:14-15 NLT

He is worth it! When we face the challenges to determine if we will follow Him, remember we’re exchanging the temporary for the eternal.

“He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” – Jim Elliot
