“The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.” (2 Corinthians 10:4 NIV)
Weapons are for purpose. We wouldn’t be given weapons if there were nothing to defend. We have been, are being and will be attacked. And so, we’ve been given weapons.
These weapons have DIVINE power. GOD’s power! Like the same great power that raised CHRIST from the dead. If GOD grants us weapons with divine power, then it is HIS power. We haven’t received a portion of HIM, but all of HIS power! We have been granted these divine weapons to demolish strongholds.
Strongholds, in military terms, are the beachhead; the place from which the enemy lands to make an attack on the rest of our mind, soul and spirit. It is their strong base. Those bases, in our journey to follow JESUS, have to be demolished. And we have been given the weapons to tear them out, and destroy them.
You might be in a personal battle, or love someone who is in a personal battle, to demolish one of these strongholds. And if you’re like me, you’re thinking, “I’m in a battle, what’s up with the weapons?”
This week, I saw again, one of those weapons in action, at a pastors’ retreat in Colorado. I spent time each day worshipping with about 30-40 others. When we gathered as believers and praised GOD together…I saw a weapon with DIVINE power, capable of demolishing strongholds.
A guy, with his guitar, led us, singing mostly old hymns. While he's very talented, it wasn’t flashy. However, I’ve noticed my brothers and sisters were truly seeking GOD, wanting to hear from HIM, and praise HIM for the things HE has done. And you know, the worship was more than sweet. It was powerful!
If GOD lives in us (Ephesians 1:13-14), and HE is over all things (Ephesians 1:21), then HIS Presence is in us, as we gather together. We become a great source of Light in the spiritual realm. And this Light pierces the darkness, and the darkness cannot comprehend, understand or extinguish the Light (John 1:4-5)!
In the midst of pure worship, we sense the Presence of GOD. We’re reminded who HE is. Perspectives distorted by our enemy, in the midst of a trial, are seen more clearly. The door to Hope, Peace and Joy is opened. Faith surges! All of these things are possible, when we gather and focus on our FATHER together.
So, believers, come ready to worship! Regardless of our opinions about style, genre, song choices or our leaders’ voices – there are spiritual battles going on all around us. If you don’t need someone battling for you today, they need you battling for them! And let’s be confident, that when we set our feet to worship GOD, regardless of our circumstances, we are taking a battle position with a weapon of DIVINE power in The Kingdom!
“When peace like a river attendeth my way.
When sorrows like sea billows roll.
Whatever my lot, THOU hast taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.”
