Unique & Dearly Loved
"You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother's womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous - how well I know it...How precious are Your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I cant even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, You are still with me!" (Psalm 139: 13-14, 17-18 NLT)
Two observations this week on Psalm 139:
One - you are a unique creation by the Creator of the universe. He made you unique for a reason. His workmanship is marvelous. For instance, the optic nerve has over 1.1 million nerve cells that have to connect from your retina to your brain, for you to read this. Perfect match and you have eyesight (whoever counted has a different gift set than me).
Two - God loves you. He thinks of you. Ever been in love and thought about someone...all the time. Read verses 17-18 again. He has more thoughts about you than the grains of sand. And, the best part is He not only thinks of you, when you wake up, He is there, still with you! God loves you and He has made you unique, for His purposes and for relationship with Him.
As a little reminder of this truth, I turned on to a street in our neighborhood, saw a doe walking across and then caught her baby out of the corner of my eye trying to run away. When I turned to see the fawn, he fell. This fawn was so new, he wasn't able to do what deer do best...run! So, I took this video (forgive my shaky video skills):
Did you know these baby white tail have spots because their predators see in black and white, and the spots keep their predators from seeing them? Did you know God made them without scent, so the predators cannot smell them? This hours old fawn reminded me of God's unlimited capacity to create and His unfailing love for you and me. I hope you read again the truth of Psalm 139 and realize God does have the capacity to make you unique, He did it for a reason and He loves you with an everlasting love...and I hope you get the chance to share it in a way that only you could with one of your friends.
"We need to come to know who we truly are, that uniquely beautiful person that God has made us. And to have the courage to live accordingly. Each of us is a unique expression of the divine goodness and beauty. If we do not live that or express it in our lives, it will never be expressed in this world for the glory of God and the up-building of the whole body of Christ." Basil Pennington, Breaking Bread
