"Don't let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in Me." (John 14:1 NLT) "The true way to know God is, not by arguing about or seeking to verify His existence by intellectual processes, but by obeying the precepts of Jesus; following the footsteps of Jesus; holding fellowship with Jesus." - F. B. Meyer
I have been recently questioned about why I believe in Jesus Christ. A friend who is struggling to know wants me to give him evidence; rational and logical arguments. There are points to be made on both sides of this argument: evolution vs.creation, a God who claims to love in the face of mass genocide, poverty and suffering; a virgin birth, and how could this loving God send a bunch of good people to hell just because they don't believe in Jesus?
This week I came across the above quote in a commentary by F. B. Meyer and it struck a deep chord within me. We really never win these arguments or satisfy the asker of all of these questions. Only Jesus Christ, alive, active, healing, moving, touching, restoring, pleading and loving a person penetrates the soul to the point where you know...He is real! He is alive! He loves me!
You land in one of two camps on this: you have experienced the love of Christ, know He is real and trust Him with your life or you have not and do not...yet. So, if you've experienced Jesus, how did He reach out to you? Was it the stars in the night sky, little fish under the sea, little fingers of your own child in your hand, unexplainable circumstances changing in your own life, a mountaintop experience, rescue from a dark moment in your life or something else? I would love to know. Your comments might just open the door to the heart of another, so by all means, fire away!
