“Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal GOD for images resembling mortal men and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore GOD gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about GOD for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.” (Romans 1:22-25 ESV)

This is our story. It repeats generation after generation. I have been memorizing some Scripture with a friend, and I have been overwhelmed with this one thought. Our nature is to turn, to not walk after The LORD. Ever since Eve listened to the serpent, considered his temptations, and thought about how she might be like GOD, knowing good and evil, we fell, and have continued to fall. And yet, GOD keeps coming for us. He did it for Adam and Eve, for the Israelites, leading them up from Egypt, giving them prophets, judges, kings, and continuing time after time to offer them redemption, to redeem HIS people. And this same GOD who did this for them, is the ONE who has done it once for all in JESUS CHRIST, for us!

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of GOD” (Ephesians 2:8 NIV)

This is who GOD is! This is what HE does. HIS Word tells us that HE is the same – yesterday, today and forever. HE was their Redeemer and HE is our Redeemer – HE redeems!!!

In Haiti this week, I’ve been overwhelmed with this truth. Leading a group of folks who have come here for the first time reminded me that upon first glance, this is a devastated land. But I’ve been coming for a while and I don’t see that anymore. Sure, I see poverty, and remnants from the devastation. GOD, though, is showing me a new thing.

My brothers, Stan and Noel, were led to Onaville a couple of years ago. Onaville’s geography is moonscape. No trees, as a result of deforestation. Keep in mind, Haiti was once referred to as the Emerald Isle, one of the jewels of the Caribbean. And there are still beautiful places here. However, the French slaves sold their soul, and their land to the devil in exchange for the favor to conquer the French, gaining their independence. Onaville is part of the island where it is obvious this land has been devastated. But GOD, is a Redeemer.

Over the last 2 years, we have seen 2 churches go up in this community. And this week, we’re working on a third. We’ re working with Mission Discovery and other church partners, as well as Outside The Bowl to put a super kitchen and bakery into this area. We’ve drilled water wells, and are putting together a water distribution system. Medical clincs, dental clinics and Vacation Bible Schools have taken place all over this land that was left for dead.

Two nights ago, one of the girls on our team, who was working on the newest church, saw kids coming from the hills, far off, running toward this new church in their village. And it hit me. GOD, The Redeemer, is redeeming this people, just like HE does and has done forever.

This is one village. We ride the plane down with teams of people every time I come, and they are going to different places all over this little country. GOD is doing a work and it is beautiful to see!  So, if you're going through a difficult situation or relationship and think there isn't any reason for hope...look up.  Cry out to JESUS!  Remember HE has proven all through history, HE doesn't give up on you or the one you love...HE comes for you.  HE can and will redeem HIS people.
