Let The King of Glory Enter!
I'm a huge fan of F. B. Meyer and love his book Great Verses Through The Bible. He wrote this book close to the beginning of the last century and his language doesn’t always translate to how we think and speak today. I’ve read his devotional over and over again this week, deciding to share it with you, but not his original text. I've re-written it in my words. This isn't an attempt to plagiarize, but rather an attempt to share what I’ve learned from an old devotional this week. My prayer is this lands in a soft spot for you, like it has for me. If you’re a F. B. Meyer fan, let me apologize up front for any offense:
Thoughts From Psalm 24: 9 - “..and let The King of Glory enter.”
This is our greatest desire. We must have CHRIST, The KING of Glory, within us; it will not do for HIM to be outside. Even though we know HE is on HIS Throne, we need to know HE is within us, abiding in us, to rule and reign our individual lives. We need for him to guard the gate of our heart once HE comes in, for our enemy is just outside and our heart needs protection. We want JESUS, who is strong and mighty, to hold the gates of our heart safe against the evil one.
This line from Psalm 24 was realized first when the Ark was taken back by the Israelites to Mount Zion. Picture their joy as the symbol of GOD’s Presence was carried in, those guarding the gate crying out “Open up, ancient gates” and those carrying the Ark responding “Open up, ancient doors and let The King of Glory enter.” GOD’s physical Presence was coming home, in a moment of triumph, back into their city.
Still a greater scene took place when JESUS, having conquered death, victorious over sin and the grave, having beat back all powers and principalities, finally entered The City of GOD in the heavenly places. Imagine the angels waiting on HIS arrival shouting “Open up, ancient gates", then the angels escorting HIM home answering “Let The KING of GLORY enter”.
However, the most vital fulfillment of this line from Psalm 24 happens when our hearts open to receive HIM. JESUS comes in for good! HE will not leave our hearts and HE will hold it as HIS against all trials, circumstances, evil powers, tricks and schemes. Weak and wounded sinners…Rejoice!!! The ONE who is mighty in battle, who is invincible, has come into your heart. Now it is impossible for you to fail, for HE is The ONE guarding your heart. HE is strong enough and mighty enough to prevail!!
Do you want strength? True, lasting Strength is in the Strong SON of GOD!
Do you want might? HE is All-Mighty!
Do you want to be delivered from your enemy? or from your biggest battle? JESUS is invincible, unbeaten and HE fights for you!
