Love Wins

Love Wins

“Your Heavenly Father already knows all your needs, and He will give you all you need from day to day if you live for Him and make The Kingdom of GOD your primary concern.” (Matthew 6:33)

Can I trust GOD? Will He take care of me and those I love? I trust GOD’s plan is better than my own plans. His plans are deeper, and accomplish more than I am able to accomplish myself. His plan doesn’t involve me locking my door, shutting out those with needs, but instead opening my door and loving those He brings into my world.

GOD has this big plan. His idea, to shut down the devil, and his minions, and rulers and authorities and principalities…is the love of Jesus Christ expressed through us, The Church, which is His body. That’s it! By the way we love Him, one another, and others, all the evil in the world is dismantled. Fear only has the power we give it. It is temporary at best, and in the end, Love wins!

Our country is at a difficult crossroad. Our ancestors left their homes in Europe to pursue religious freedom, and opportunity for their families. And GOD blessed it! I don’t think any land has ever been more blessed, or been such a blessing. All these families, seeking religious freedom, came together, and formed a wonderful place to live. Maybe it has become a little too nice. Freedom thrives when it is shared, given away; it becomes bigger, and more beautiful.

Only fear would close doors and borders, shutting out the next group coming in pursuit of freedom and opportunity. They’re not terrorists. Friends, they are fleeing terror, without anything beyond the clothes on their backs. And they come to seek opportunities, like us. The difference between us? Their move is about 200 years later than ours.

Our next-door neighbors in Cedar Park, in the mid-90s, were refugees. The dad ran a munitions plant in Bosnia. One day, a revolution started in his country. His life and the lives of his wife and children were suddenly in danger. They left and left everything behind. Months and years later, he wound up working in a factory in Austin, and someone figured out he had more capacity than they were using. He began to contribute and thrive. He purchased the house next door to us. Both of his children went to high school, college and then medical school. It is a story of many immigrants. It is the blessing GOD has granted our country.

Though love wins it can be dangerous. Countless brothers and sisters in the faith loved, even when it cost them everything. In the infancy stages of Christianity, Rome was hit with the Plague. Thousands were dying and died. And our brothers and sisters responded!

“Christians showed unbounded love and loyalty, never sparing themselves and thinking only of one another.  Heedless of danger, they took charge of the sick, attending to their every need and ministering to them in Christ, and with them departed this life serenely happy; for they were infected by others with the disease, drawing on themselves the sickness of their neighbors and cheerfully accepting their pains.”  Dionysius 260 A.D (Rodney Stark, The Rise of Christianity p. 82)

Life changing love is costly. We follow JESUS, who gave up intimacy with His Father, His own well-being, and surrendered His will, even to death. And GOD made it the most beautiful moment in History.

Let’s pray for our leaders. Their decisions are hard and complex. Let’s ask GOD to grant them His wisdom. And regardless of their decisions, let’s love every one GOD places in our path, like He has loved us. As we do, fear will fade and love will win.
